Defining thirty indicators to access local mental health systems in the private sector

Abstract

The use of indicators to assess the quality of mental health care has generally been very limited. Given the importance of being able to understand and improve the functioning of mental health care, thirty indicators are suggested to allow comparisons between systems.
The proposal of indicators starts from defining ten parameters (equity, solidarity, accessibility and penetration, intermediation and transparency, continuity and treatment adherence, human resources management, effectiveness, efficiency, integration of mental health services and health services in general and, finally, system intelligence and use of appropriate technological tools).
A series of indicators are proposed in connection with each of these ten parameters, waiting to be tested for more general adoption or to find more appropriate ones.
